Objective
Provide operational and emergency demand water storage for the City’s water system by constructing a buried eight million gallon pre-stressed concrete underground reservoir, groundwater supply well, and pump station with 1000 kW backup generator adjacent to the with minimal no disruption to Graham Middle School and minimal noise to the surrounding neighborhood.
Challenge
The project site was located within the playing fields of Graham Middle School, presenting unique logistical, safety challenges, and noise restrictions. To ensure security and prevent unauthorized access, strict site access controls were implemented throughout the duration of the work. Before construction could begin on the pre-stressed concrete underground reservoir, a significant mass excavation was required. To minimize disruption and reduce potential exposure to trucking operations for students, excavation activities were scheduled during the summer break, and material deliveries were carefully timed to avoid the start and end of the school day. Given the site’s proximity to a residential neighborhood, measures were taken to mitigate noise impacts.
Results
Anderson Pacific successfully delivered a state-of-the-art underground reservoir and new pump station, with supply well providing the City of Mountain View with reliable operational and emergency water storage. The project strengthened the city’s emergency preparedness demonstrating Anderson Pacific’s commitment to innovative solutions and community partnership. The City was later able to install athletic fields over the reservoir allowing Graham Middle School to re-gain use of the land as well.
