Objective
To protect the low-lying North Shoreview neighborhood from flooding and rising tides, the City of San Mateo launched a major flood-control program. The project included construction of two new stormwater pump stations, force mains, and levee upgrades along the San Francisco Bay shoreline to improve drainage and increase resilience against sea-level rise.
Challenge
Work took place directly along and within the Bay, requiring continuous dewatering, careful shoring, and strict environmental controls. The team coordinated closely with multiple regulatory agencies—including USACE, BCDC, RWQCB, and CDFW—to protect sensitive tidal habitats and meet permit conditions. Limited access, soft Bay mud, and tidal windows demanded precise sequencing and collaboration to maintain flood protection throughout construction.
Results
Anderson Pacific successfully built two fully operational pump stations with submersible pumps, and integrated electrical and control systems, along with new levee and floodwall improvements. Despite the challenging marine environment, the project was completed safely, on schedule, and in full regulatory compliance—providing long-term flood protection for the North Shoreview community.
